The Help movie review.

Movie Info:  The Help stars Emma Stone as Skeeter, Viola Davis as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny-three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed-even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times. -- (C) DreamWorks

My cute husband and I were lucky to get an early screening of this movie last Thursday evening.  We don't get to go on as many dates as often as we would like to so when tickets were given to us we quickly (well, I did) jumped on the free date night!  I did read the book last year sometime and really enjoyed it.  I loved the story line, the characters and just the whole 'feel' of the book I guess you could say.  So when I found out that they were making a movie, I was quite excited and kinda worried because the book was so great.  Usually, movies made from books don't live up the the actual story that the author wrote.  This one was different, which is good and bad.  The film version, perhaps inevitably, highlights and emphasizes all the flaws of Stockett’s plot and narrative, while omitting many of the details that made the novel a more balanced, palatable and, at times, even enjoyable read. By focusing most of the attention on the book’s white characters, the black maids Aibileen, played nobly by Viola Davis, and Minny, played by Octavia Spencer (who steals every scene she’s in), become lost in the background when in fact the story is supposed to be about them and their stories.

Anyhow, we made it to the theater and waited for the movie to start.  My husband didn't know what the movie was about at all and we had a fantastic time together.  We laughed...a lot.  I cried...a lot.  And on our way out of the theater we talked and talked about what we loved about the movie, which seemed to be most of it.  It is a tad bit longer than it probably needed to be, but every bit of it was fun and worth while.  I will most definitley read the book again and will most likely buy the movie once it comes out.  It was a great night and recommend this movie highly and would say that it is definitley on the top for Summer dramas.   It comes out tomorrow August 10th.

Be sure to enter THE HELP GIVEAWAY.  It will end tomorrow night so be sure to enter to win the prize pack!  Chances are good so good luck!
